Welcome to the
Department of Architecture
LTU is among the thirty oldest schools of architecture in the United States with our founding program dating to 1932. Our graduates hold top positions in practice and are among leaders in professional organizations such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We honor the motto, "theory and practice" with distinguished faculty who hold advanced degrees and practice experience. The college has a commitment to providing access to a diverse student body of traditional and non-traditional students with online classes as well as day and evening classes that llow our students to be employed in the field earning credit toward theire professional intership requirement for licensure. Teaching is our priority with faculty in the classrooms rather than teaching assistants. We continuously assess our curriculum and courses to remain current and integrate the new technolgies required to produce environmentally responsive design. This includes our laptop program that provides current hardware and software to students along with on campus digital fabrication and construction labs to support studio projects. Finally, the college sponsors study abroad opportunities in Paris and other countries such as Italy and China, and operates a community based urban design studio in Detroit that partners with municipalities, practitioners, community organizations, and civic and business leaders.
