A Change for Current Lawrence Tech Student Loan Borrowers

Lawrence Tech students borrow directly through the Federal Direct Student Loan Program.

If you previously borrowed from a different source (bank, credit union or other lender) you will need to begin the Federal Direct Student Loan process to complete entrance counseling and master promissory note. Most lenders beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year will sell your loan to the Federal government. For this reason you could have two sources to repay, once you go into repayment; your previous lender (prior to 2008-2009) and the Federal Direct Loan Program. Be aware of this change and carefully read all correspondance received about your loans and terms and conditions of repayment.

Entrance Counseling is a requirement for Federal Direct Student Loan borrowing.

A note to students who have borrowed under the Michigan Students First Program and the Michigan Engineering Incentive Program:  Before considering a consolidation loan you should understand the terms and conditions of all of your loans so that you do not jeopardize any borrower benefits associated with those loans that could be lost at the time of consolidation. Contact Michigan Higher Education Loan Authority for clarification.
